    The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment places special emphasis on our traditional products, said the Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Andreas A. Grigoriou speaking on Friday night at the opening of the Traditional Festival of Tastes of Ayia Napa.

    He also said that as part of the pro-agricultural policy of the Government, the Ministry is in the process of establishing a system for awarding a Cypriot label, which will give an additional boost to the Cypriot countryside.

    He also pointed out that it is not at all accidental that the fact that ten Cypriot products have already been registered in the registers of the European Union as Protected Geographical Indications, while two as Protected Designation of Origin.

    Mr. Grigoriou opened the Festival together with the Mayor of Ayia Napa Christos Zannetto.

    In his greeting, Mr. Grigoriou pointed out that “such events honor and promote the Cypriot countryside and Cypriot culture and at the same time contribute significantly to the agricultural economy, contribute to the promotion and promotion of our local production and contribute to the wider economic development of our country ».

    He also mentioned that the Festival is particularly important for our country because it brings the consumer public, locals and tourists, into contact with our agricultural products and their place of production, with delicious local dishes, as well as with traditional Cypriot handicrafts .

    He noted that the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment places special emphasis on our traditional products and it is no coincidence that ten products have already been registered in the EU registers as Protected Geographical Indications, while as Protected Designation of Origin, two”.

    “The protection of names of our agricultural products through the system of geographical indications of the European Union” noted Mr. Grigoriou “is a constant pursuit of the Ministry”.

    The Mayor of Ayia Napa Christos Zannettou in his own greeting said that “the 6th Festival of Traditional Flavors is the beginning of the cultural events of the Municipal Department of Ayia Napa in the newly established Municipality of Ayia Napa and finds Ayia Napa united with four other municipal departments and the entire Municipality in a new dynamic trajectory, in a new era”.

    The new Municipality of Ayia Napa, he added, “is the only Municipality in Cyprus that holds the most festivals promoting Cypriot products and at the same time the only one that promotes the most cultural events dedicated to our culture, customs, traditions and traditions, such as the “Carrot Festival” in the Municipal District of Liopetriou, the “Potato Festival” in the Municipal District of Avgorou, the “Kolokasiou Festival” on September 6 in the Municipal District of Sotiras”.

    In his greeting, the Deputy Mayor of the Municipal District of Agia Napa Antonis Christou stated that “the Festival of Traditional Flavors has now established itself as an institution after it managed in just six years to highlight our Municipal District and in general our Municipality as a point of reference for the traditions of our place, becoming a pole of attraction for local and foreign visitors, offering everyone a unique experience”.

    With the ultimate goal, he added, “the promotion of traditional Cypriot products, traditional artistic creation, local dishes and Cypriot handicrafts, our Festival has now become an important pillar for the protection, preservation and dissemination of the rich cultural heritage of the place us”.

    “We firmly believe that it is our duty to continue to contribute to the preservation of our cultural heritage, therefore we assure that at every opportunity we will transmit it and use it creatively in every way for the benefit of the young us and the generations to come,” said Mr. Christou, concluding.

    The officials toured the Festival site, where they had the opportunity to see the various crafts and constructions and enjoy the various Cypriot products and delicacies .

    The 6th Festival of Traditional Flavors concludes on Sunday, August 11 and is under the auspices of the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Maria Panagiotou.
