The official announcement of the second sponsorship plan of the Ministry of Tourism, which was included in the National Plan for Recovery and Sustainability, after its approval by the Council of Ministers the day before yesterday, is considered a matter of time.
This is the Sponsorship Plan for the Revitalization of rural, mountainous and remote areas, through the creation of authentic experiences for the enrichment and upgrading of the tourism product. As Deputy Minister of Tourism Savvas Perdios stated after the meeting of the Council of Ministers, the plan has a total budget of 5 million euros, of which 2 million will be allocated this year with its first announcement.
The plan, as Mr. Perdios explained, is addressed to two categories of beneficiaries: First, companies wishing to join the authentic experience path called “Heartland of Legends”. The maximum amount of the grant for the first category is 200,000 euros and in the most remote areas and the mountains of Cyprus the sponsorship is of the order of 75%, while in the countryside it is of the order of 65%, he added.

The second category of beneficiaries is the local authorities, so that they can join another quality pact of the Ministry of Tourism, the “Colorful Villages”. These beneficiaries will be entitled to up to 100% subsidy, which can reach up to 65,000 euros, something that has been done for the first time, said the Deputy Minister of Tourism. According to the minister, in terms of sponsorships for individuals and legal entities to join the “Heartland of Legends”, they aim to help companies create experiential experiences in the fields of gastronomy, wine, arts, crafts, processing and traditional products. “For the first time something is being done in Cyprus that will give a big boost to the creation of authentic experiences, but also to the aesthetic upgrade of our villages”, noted the Deputy Minister of Tourism, adding that “building only and having beautiful stone and beautiful paving is not “It's enough.”
“Abroad, flowers and signs and materials that play a positive role in our perception of the environment also play a role,” he concluded.
In the context of yesterday's statements, Mr. Perdios reiterated his optimism for this year's course of tourist arrivals and for a better year compared to last year. Asked about the number of tourist arrivals in Cyprus this year, Mr. Perdios said that the year has started quite well, adding that already in the first four months of the year according to official statistics, we are about 80% of 2019 arrivals, “which was a record year for Cyprus “, as he reminded further noting that 2022 is a good year.
