Most people came to know and love actress Nichelle Nichols as Uhura on “Star Trek” — something that, after all, was confirmed by her much-publicized death back in July on social media to say goodbye to the actress with some image or scene from the legendary series.

Celeste Inc. a private company working with NASA decided, of course, to take the tribute one step further. Or many, since the ashes of the late Nichelle Nichols will travel into space.

So, part of the ashes of the actress who died at the age of 89, will be “on board” her Vulcan Centaur rocket United Launch Alliance on a flight that will take place within the year.

The launch of the rocket will take place in Florida, while the aircraft is expected to reach beyond the James Webb telescope, into interplanetary space.
Nichel Nichols' ashes won't be the only “Star Trek” cast members to “travel” on said mission. Together they will be those of James Doohan who played Montgomery Scott (or “Scotty”), the creator of the series Gene Roddenberry and his wife Maigel Roddenberry who also played in “Star Trek” Christine Chappelle and Number One but also gave her voice on most computers in the series.
