AKEL warned from the beginning that the EastMed pipeline is a project with economic and geopolitical problems, says the general secretary of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou.
In a full-length interview with “First Information”, Mr. Stefanou referred to government fiestas which accompanied the signing of the tripartite agreements. The members of the government, he said, were pushing each other who will make statements and now, he added, they are missing.
Stefanos Stefanou also states that the issue of hydrocarbons is intertwined with the resolution of the Cyprus issue and AKEL has put forward proposals for natural gas to break the current impasse in the Cyprus issue. “When AKEL calls on the government to put pressure on Turkey, the rulers only go to the European Union and ask for sanctions,” he added.
The Secretary General of AKEL also spoke about the inability of the Republic of Cyprus to implement its sovereign rights, which are recognized by all, attributing it to the lack of credibility in which the government has led Cyprus.
