Storm Debbie hits Florida with hurricane strength
Tropical Storm Debbie, which hit Florida yesterday morning at hurricane strength, has killed at least four people and is threatening to cause “catastrophic flooding” in the southeastern United States .

Two more people were killed in a crash in Dixie County when the driver “lost control due to bad weather and wet roads,” according to local police. A semi-trailer driver also died near Tampa after plunging into a canal.
Hurricane Debbie, which weakened to a tropical storm in Florida on Monday, moved toward Georgia last night and is expected to then move offshore and then approach South Carolina the day after tomorrow, Thursday, according to the US National Hurricane Center (NHC).
“Now the effects of Debbie'
After reaching 120 km/h, the storm's winds were last night gusting to 75 km/h. The NHC had warned that on the coast the water level could rise by two meters.
“The effects of Debbie are just beginning and are expected to be felt throughout the week on a part of the southeast coast”, warned Michael Brennan, the director of the NHC.
