Strong smell of burning in Nicosia – What the Fire Department says

Strong smell of burnt materials prevails in Nicosia and especially in the city center.

In communication of politis.com.cy with the spokesperson of the Fire Service, Andrea Ketti, we were told that in the free areas there is no fire in the city center.

Everything leads to the conclusion that the fire that is raging in a landfill in the occupied areas since yesterday afternoon, is the cause of the strong smell of burning in the free areas. As Mr. Kettis mentioned, the prevailing winds seem to have “pushed” the stench in the free areas as well.

According to the Turkish Cypriot press, the fire that is in progress in the occupied areas is in the area of Koutsoventi.
