Students managed to express their feelings, while acquiring mathematical knowledge of comparing and representing explicit numbers on the number line, during exemplary teaching in Mathematics, held at the Panagia Theoskepastis High School, Paphos, in frameworks of the Erasmus+ and DRA.SE+ programs.
According to a relevant announcement, the idea for the implementation of the specific sample teaching arose from the Erasmus+ project entitled “Unpacking Feelings” in which the school participates, but also from the desire of the contributors to implement the Erasmus+ and DRA.SE programs in combination. + in the learning process.
As mentioned, the main goal of the Erasmus+ project is for students to gain self-confidence, to be able to release their emotions and express their emotional experiences that occurred during the pandemic.< /p>
In addition, the main purpose of the project is for students to acquire skills in a creative and expressive way. With this in mind, it was decided to implement the aims of the “Unpacking Feelings” project in a Mathematics course, with the aim of combining the teaching process of comparing rational numbers in an inequality, with the feelings of students with an immigrant biography.
The main purpose of the lesson is for the students, through the expression of emotions (positive and negative), to encode these emotions and fit them into an inequality in mathematics, so that they learn to compare rational numbers.< /p>
It should also be noted that the lesson was addressed to a pure class of students with an immigrant background who recently arrived in Cyprus.
Through the above teaching and through the mathematics lesson, identified the feelings of the students, which would be difficult to show under other circumstances, is finally mentioned.
