Study on smart buildings in Cyprus by Frederick and the Ministry of Energy

The start of a study on the intelligence levels of buildings in Cyprus, on the basis of the directives of the European Commission, with the participation of the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry, was announced by Frederick University in an announcement on Monday, following an update by the General Directorate of Energy of the European Committee from the Ministry of Energy for its intention to investigate the implementation of the Smart Readiness Indicator system in Cyprus.

According to the university, the intelligent building readiness index is a system for evaluating the intelligence of buildings and was established by the European Commission in 2018, through the European directive on the energy efficiency of buildings, with Cyprus being the ninth country in the European Union to which expresses its intention to investigate the adoption of this system, through the implementation of a relevant study.

It is added that the said study will be implemented by a group of technical consultants which consists of the Cyprus Energy Office, the Frederick University Sustainable Energy Research Group and the technology companies Euphyia Tech Ltd and CyRIC Ltd.

Upon completion of the study, the duration which will be nine months, the average levels of intelligence of buildings in Cyprus will be determined, as well as their proposed categorization into intelligence indicators, depending on the automation and control systems they are equipped with.

This is an important development in terms of the promotion and establishment of smart buildings and smart cities in Cyprus, strengthening the conditions for a sustainable and energy efficient built environment, the announcement concludes.
