Population movements combined with the fact that the growing season was interrupted or never started, lead the country to famine

One step before collapse is Sudan, a country that has more than 10 months of war and its population is malnourished. p>

Only 5% of Sudanese people are able to eat a full meala day, as claimed by Eddie Rowe, director of the local branch of the World Food Program (PAM). Thousands of people have been killed during the war that began on April 15, 2023, between army chief General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his former deputy, General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, the head of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (FSR).

At the same time, approximately six million people have been displaced, while three million people already had the same path in previous conflicts in the country, according to UN data. never started, they are driving the country into famine, a country that is already among the poorest in the world.

“It is a deadly mix that could plunge millions of people into humanitarian disaster,” Eddy Rowe warned during remarks to reporters in Brussels.

At least 18 million people in Sudan are experiencing acute food insecurity and barely they can be supported by humanitarian organizations, which face obstacles to their movements and, moreover, do not have sufficient funding.

“About five million people are on the brink of disaster, in the last stage before the famine”, notes Eddie Rowe at the same time.

As PAM's regional director points out, it is not possible to collect data to confirm whether the country is already on the brink of famine, as in a large part of the country there is no access. PAM is only able to care for 10% of the people in need. In December, when the war reached Al Jazeera State, south of Khartoum, the country lost its granary. “Thousands of small crops as well as large farms were abandoned,” concluded Eddie Rowe.
