Tatar: Turkish side ready to work with EU to address pandemic effects on economy

The Turkish leader Ersin Tatar had an online meeting with the Director General of EU Structural Reform Support, Mario Nava, and his delegation yesterday, Wednesday, with the discussion revolving around issues of cooperation for various projects. According to a statement from the “presidency”, Mr. Tatar expressed the readiness of the Turkish Cypriot side to cooperate with the EU and added that “it is important for the EU to avoid any discrimination against the Turkish Cypriots”.

“We are ready to continue and expand cooperation with the EU in various fields, from the environment to education, trade and tourism,” he said.

The Turkish Cypriot side, he continued, is ready to implement projects that will help deal with the negative effects on the economies of both sides in Cyprus due to the pandemic, he said.

The Turkish Cypriot leader also said that it is important for the Turkish Cypriot side to be included in projects for clean energy, as “pollution knows no borders” in his expression.

He also called on the EU to take action to end the “unjust isolation” of the Turkish Cypriots and to fulfill its promises without promoting policies that reinforce “inequality” on the island.

According to the announcement, Mr. Nava spoke about a constructive meeting and expressed the desire to continue contacts with the Turkish Cypriot side. The special representative of the Turkish Cypriot leader Ergun Olgun also participated in the meeting.
