In an announcement of the Company it is stated that “What is important is not clinging to the mistakes of the past, but abandoning the practices of delays and cooperation between the competent departments to prepare and approve the Local Plan as soon as possible. The lack of a Local Plan makes any development or attraction of potential investors impossible and keeps the affected areas stuck as well as the wider Famagusta District” it is noted.
TEBEA “welcomes the commitments given by the Director of the Department of Urban Planning and Housing to respect the timelines of the procedures, from the preparation of the Strategic Environmental Impact Study until mid-October, to the final decision of the Urban Planning Council on the basis of the future opinion of the Environmental Authority at the end of of this year, until the final approval and publication of the Local Plan”.
The Company also welcomes “the assurance he gave that there is no question of a possible overturning of the process to date in the event of a change in the composition of the Urban Planning Council”.
He also welcomes the assurances given by the Department of Environment “how priority will be given to the examination of the environmental aspects of the Local Plan in order to avoid delay in the completion of the procedures”.
In the announcement, TEBEA expresses “warm thanks to the Mayors, Community Leaders and professional bodies of the region who did not stop fighting to settle the problem, as well as to all the MPs of Famagusta, from all party factions, who listened to the concerns of the local authorities and bodies and took the initiative to register the issue of the Local Plan with the Parliamentary Committee on the Interior, thus highlighting the problem and laying the foundations for its definitive solution”.
