Telegraph article on attracting Hollywood producers to Cyprus

An extensive article in the British Daily Telegraph mentions the attractiveness of Cyprus as a place for the production of Hollywood movies.

The newspaper notes that the Cypriot authorities offer “aggressive” incentives for producers, such as cash back up to 35% of production companies' expenses, but also a beautiful setting with sunshine 320 days a year.

The person in charge of attracting film producers to the island of Lefteris Eleftheriou tells the Telegraph that Cyprus is a large natural studio with different landscapes nearby.

He even points out that the light falls on the landscape at the same angle as in Los Angeles, as they are at the same latitude.

The newspaper also hosts statements by director Dimitris Logothetis, who is behind the film Jiu Jitsu with Nicolas Cage, which, as noted, became the first Hollywood production to be shot entirely in Cyprus after more than four decades.

Mr. Logothetis states that the film could not be shot in much more expensive America and that the incentives offered by Cyprus are reciprocated in the local economy. “For every euro or dollar that a country spends on a film, it gets back seven,” he says.

He notes the lack of infrastructure and staff for film productions in Cyprus, but believes that in a few years the landscape will have improved
