Ten months of negative inflation in Cyprus

Negative harmonized inflation, for the 10th consecutive month, was recorded in January 2021, on an annual basis, according to data published on Tuesday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus.

Specifically, the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices and consequently the harmonized inflation, decreased in January 2021 by 0.8% both compared to January 2020 and compared to the previous month. The Index shows a negative sign from April 2020.

Compared to January 2020, the category Housing, Water Supply, Electricity and LPG and Transport presented the largest negative change with 5.3%, while the category Clothing and Footwear had a positive change (5.4%).

According to the Statistical Service, compared to December 2020, the largest change was recorded in the category Clothing and Footwear (-13.9%).

The largest change in the economic categories compared to January 2020 was observed in the Energy category (-10.7%).

Compared to the previous month, the Non-energy industrial products category recorded the largest change with -3.4%.
