It is an omission if the negative reports about an applicant were not brought before the Council of Ministers, the former Minister of Interior Eleni Mavrou stated before the Commission of Inquiry for the exceptional naturalizations.
Mr. Mavrou, who testified before the Commission on December 10, stated, among other things, that “there was an official of the Ministry, who received the applications, forwarded them to the Ministry of Finance and the Police, I think only, and prepared the reports for the Council of Ministers”.
Asked to comment on the fact that there were negative reports about a specific applicant that were not notified to the Council of Ministers, Mr. Mavrou replied that “afterwards I believe that a much more thorough inspection should have been carried out, mainly by the Police”.
It is noted that the Investigative Committee decided that, for the purposes of equal treatment of all witnesses, it should send to the journalists the minutes of the depositions which took place in the absence of the media.
