The Americans are ready to be actively involved in the Cyprus issue, Victoria Nuland's message during a telephone conversation with Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulidis.
This is the third contact between Washington and Nicosia, a fact that the Cypriot government notes with satisfaction. The US Secretary of State's phone call to Nikos Christodoulidis and Biden's letter to Anastasiadis had preceded.

According to our information, the conversation between the Secretary of State and the US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs took place in a constructive atmosphere. The two are known from the past during the period when Victoria Nuland was in the Barack Obama government and was still involved in the Cyprus issue.
Diplomatic sources pointed out to “F” that the Nuland-Christodoulidis communication after the Blinken communication and the Biden letter “confirms the unprecedented positive dynamics in the Nicosia-Washington relations”.
According to our information, the main topic of discussion was the Cyprus issue. During the discussion, they exchanged views on the ongoing effort to resume talks. The same information states that Deputy Foreign Minister Nuland expressed the desire and readiness of the USA to actively contribute to the progress, adding that in this context they raise the issue to the Turkish side at the highest level. At the same time, the US emphasizes the need to avoid illegal actions either in the enclosed area of Varosia, or in the EEZ of KD.
Ms. Nuland referred to the fact that President Biden is well acquainted with the Cyprus issue and is committed to making progress within the agreed framework for resolving the ICC. He noted that Biden's visit in 2014 paved the way for upgrading the cooperation between the two countries. He expressed the desire to further strengthen bilateral relations on a number of issues.
Finally, he reiterated the importance that the United States attaches to developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and the wider region, expressing a desire to work with the Security Council to ensure security and stability.
