The Party for the Animals of Cyprus disagrees with the confinement of the “Savannas” cat at the Limassol Zoo, stating that the procedures concerning KAD 95/2021 have been bypassed . In addition, the physical and psycho-emotional needs of the animal were not taken into account at all, the party statement added.
It was not taken into account, it is reported, that the specific animal was treated as a pet all this time, it can not live in its natural environment, while referring to information that the cat will be in the Limassol ZC and will be in common view for its visitors.
The Animal Party calls on the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment to investigate and give instructions to determine whether under the Animal Welfare Law 46 (I) 1994 which was amended in March 2021 by a decision of the Council of Ministers and according to KDP (Regulatory Order) 95/2021, the correct procedures were followed or not, as well as whether the action of the Veterinary Services which gave its permission for the transfer of the cat to the Limassol ZC, although and whether it is in line with the national legislation on zoos 81/2002 where in our opinion relevant articles were violated.
He also states that he will ask the Minister of Agriculture to transfer the wild Savannah cat back to the guardian with very strict restrictive conditions and at least daily inspection by the veterinary services until the case is examined.
