The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works has clarified the matter of the employment of ground handling staff at Larnaca and Paphos airports, after the long-hour work stoppage, which caused enormous inconvenience to passengers and affected more than 15 flights.

The Ministry announced that:

1. For Pafos Airport, the 28 permanent non-seasonal workers who have expressed an interest in continuing their employment, will be hired under the same terms of employment and with a status of continuing their employment.

2. For Larnaca Airport, the discussion continues with the aim of settling the issue on the same basis in the next few days with the aim of concluding by Wednesday, November 9, 2022.

The employees complain that  “the new company is not going to implement the regulations that the Ministry of Transport has signed nor the collective agreement”, as well as how interviews were held by the new company on Tuesday in the context of which they were told that they would receive a reduction in wages which contradicts  both the collective labor agreement it is obliged to implement and the decree of the Ministry of Transport, which speaks of the transfer of employees under the same employment conditions.
