The Department of Environment has given the conditional green light for the construction of a five-star hotel in the Municipality of Geroskipou by the Holy Archdiocese after submitting revised plans as the development will coexist with antiquities. This is the Diamond Essence hotel.
The proposed project consists of eight floors – 484 beds with an additional ground floor and a roof garden with a level of basement spaces, in which a wellness center, gym, swimming pool, sauna, massage, etc. is expected to be built, 44 parking spaces as well as other supporting spaces with a total height of 40.60 m and an area of 33,523 m2 and the which will belong to the Holy Archdiocese of Cyprus.
The proposed project came about after significant changes in its location and the forms of the building following the results of the Department of Antiquities' research in relation to the original design submitted in the application for Town Planning License no. PAF/361/2017 and the completion of its examination was pending.
The location
The proposed development is located on the beach front of the Municipality of Geroskipou at a distance of 2.5 km south from the residential core of the Municipality. According to the Local Plan of Paphos, the parcel under consideration falls within urban planning zone T1c (Tourist Zone). Part of the plot falls within the Beach Protection Zone. In the area of the parcel under consideration are the following archaeological finds:
• Building Foundations – Complex of buildings from the Hellenistic period.
• Aqueduct – Remains of an ancient aqueduct.
• Reservoir – Remains of an ancient aqueduct and reservoir.
The church of Agios Nikolaos is located within the plot under consideration.
