The total Assets Under Management for the first quarter of 2021 amounted to € 9.8 billion, recording an increase of 14% compared to the fourth quarter of 2020, as shown by the quarterly statistical bulletin issued by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CCP).
The statistical bulletin has already been posted on the ECC website and presents the most important data on the Collective Investments sector in Cyprus. Specifically, EKK has under its supervision a total of 284 Collective Investment Management Companies and Collective Investment Organizations (Collective Investment Organizations), of which 196 have activities. Out of the total number of companies, 173 are Externally Managed OSEs, 52 are Internally Managed OSEs and 59 are External Managers. The total number of Management Companies includes 31 AIFMs, 73 AIFMs – Below the Limits, 3 UCITS Management Companies and 4 Dual License Companies (AIFM and UCITS Management Companies).
In terms of total Assets Under Management, the fourth quarter of 2020 amounted to € 9.8 billion, recording an increase of 14% compared to the fourth quarter of 2020, while the total Net Asset Value was € 7.97 billion. 52% of Assets Under Management came from AIFM, 17% from AIFM-below limits, 23% from AIFM and UCITS Management Companies, 7% from UCITS Management Companies and only 1% from supervised OSEs, which are under management non-Cypriot Management Companies.
Regarding the investment policy of UCITS, they invest about 85% of the Assets under Management in Securities, while investments in Deposits follow with 9%. Regarding the OEE, OEEPAP and KOEE, 36% of the Assets Under Management concerns investments in Private Share Capital and 13% in Real Estate.
There are a total of 166 OSE with activities. 74% of the Assets under Management are owned by 149 Cypriot OSEs (10 UCITS, 51 AIF, 63 AIF and 25 AOC). Out of the total of 166 OSE with activities, 123 invest in Cyprus partially or in full and the investments in Cyprus correspond to € 2.2 billion (22.8% of the total Assets Under Management). 54% of investments in Cyprus concern investments in Private Share Capital, while investments in Real Estate constitute 14%.
Regarding the categorization of investors in UCITS, it is found that almost all (99.3%) are private investors. Regarding OEE, OEEPAP and KOEE, 38.2% of all investors are Professional Investors, 49.9% Well-Informed Investors and only 11.9% Private Investors.
Finally, in terms of OSE investments in specific sectors during the first quarter of 2021, Assets Under Management in the Energy sector amounted to € 314.9 million (3.22% of the total ESA), in the Fintech sector to € 36 million ( 0.37% of the total ESA), in the Shipping sector at € 31.7 million (0.32% of the total ESA), in the sustainable investment sector at € 39.5 million (0.40% of the total ESA) and in the cryptocurrency sector at € 5.6 million (0.06% of the total ESA).
