The background for the presidential elections is igniting with messages coming and going between parties but also allegedly interested in the presidential elections. The first ten days of next month will clarify a lot about how the political scene will move and how the lot will be set. To a large extent this will be determined by the behind-the-scenes fireballs that will precede the contacts that will be made in front of the cameras. The interest is essentially focused on two levels:
. First: How the opposition parties will move and whether they will be able to conclude a cooperation between them and who will include this cooperation.
. Second: Who will ultimately be the candidates for the presidential election and from whom will they draw support. In this equation, the biggest question mark concerns the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Christodoulidis, who, as he has repeatedly stated, will make his final decisions in March. The information states that the processes are in progress at all levels with the flirtation between AKEL and DIKO becoming more and more intense over time, through informal contacts and conversations that take place between party executives, either by phone or in person. The Parliament is mainly the place where various informal discussions have taken place so far between MPs of the two parties. In this context, there was an informal conversation, according to our information, between the leaders of the two parties. The intention, as they let it leak, is mutual and over time this idea matures into action. There has been no formal discussion about names, but unofficially some ideas have fallen on the table.

The name of the president of DIKO, Nikola Papadopoulos, is one of them, as AKEL secretary general Stefanos Stefanou himself admitted last week in his statements that he was unofficially appointed. A name that is strongly promoted by people in Hezekiah Papaioannou and it is expected that the possibility of his support is a scenario that will play a lot, although there are strong reactions from people in the party.
