Great victory for Omonia, which beat Aris 2-1 in the first match of the second round at the “Alfamega Stadium”. Bezos (30', pen.) and Semedo (35') scored for the “clover”, while Gomis (45+4') shaped the final result.
Suffocating pressure was exerted in the second half by the players of Alexei Spilevski, who looked for an equaliser, but Fabiano, a mistake, but also a fairly good defensive function… brought the three points to the visitors.
In this way, Giannis Anastasiou combined his debut with a precious double and now Omonia is in fourth place with 52 points. Aris stayed in second place and on 56 points, which saw its difference from the top increase to four points.
First Half
Goals and spectacle were offered in the first half. the two teams, with Aris entering the match better, pushing for a quick goal.
The “light brigade” after imposing its rhythm in the initial stages of the match, then saw Fabiano respond negatively to two attempts by Kazou to score, both with a direct execution of a corner (!), and with a direct free kick.
This was followed by two missed attempts by Soke and Kokorin, but also by a save by Fabiano in a shot by Modnor… and while in the 25th minute, a disallowed goal against Aris was recorded. After a deep ball, Gomis got in behind the defence, the 'trefoil' keeper came out and cleared before the Senegalese got hold of the ball, but inadvertently laid it to Kokorin, who scored in front of an empty net.
However, the goal did not count, since VAR and the referee agreed that there was an offside on Gomis at the start of the phase. So where the home team was pressing for the goal, Omonia won a penalty for a handball by Iago in the area, with Bezos hitting the target from eleven steps in the 30th minute, thus opening the scoring.
In the 33rd minute, Fabiano made an amazing save on a strong shot by Eddy Semedo, with Willy Semedo making it 2-0 for his team two minutes later! A large percentage of the goal is credited to Hambos, who after a wonderful effort gave the international winger, who scored with a double effort.
Although Alexey Spilevskii's men appeared to have been outdone by the opposition's two goals, they eventually managed to pull one back before the break through Gomis. After Kazou's corner kick, the experienced forward caught the header inside the area and sent the ball into the net.
2-1 in favor of Omonia was the score of the first half.
2nd Half
Aris entered the second half with an aggressive attitude, but Omonia managed to keep Alexei Spilevski's forwards away from Fabiano's goal for a significant period of time.
The first big chance in the replay came in the 62nd minute, when after a cross in the area, Kokorin, who escaped the markings, got a header from an advantageous position, sending the ball over the posts.
Next, Alexey Spilevski made his team's approach even more aggressive, as with the entry of Savo, the “light brigade” was playing with six attacking players (along with Kazou)!
Omonoia emphasized their defensive operation, with Savo “touching” the equalizer in the 72nd minute. The ball was laid to the Swede, who from the height of the large area sent it over the posts.
The hosts continued to press and in the 82nd minute they missed a double big chance. Fabiano made an impressive save from Begcson's shot from close range, followed by a misdirected shot by Gomis, who was in an advantageous position.
