The hearing for the case in which the former Metropolitan of Kiti, Chrysostomos, is accused, started before the Larnaca District Court on Monday, with the testimony of the examiner of the case. This is the case of indecent assault on a woman, who at the time in which the crime was allegedly committed was a minor.
Information from KYPE states that after the testimony of the examiner of the case, he was re-examined by the ombudsman's defense attorney for issues that were not investigated by the Police.
According to the same information The lawyer of the former Metropolitan of Kiti told the Court that he reserves the right to raise the issue of violation of the right to a fair trial within a reasonable time, since, as he claimed, 41 years have passed since the day of the alleged offense, for which the accused his client.
The information of KYPE also states that the hierarch's lawyer stated before the Court that important witnesses for the case have died while another testimony has been lost and claimed that the case was “improperly investigated by the Police”.
The Court set the case for 23 and 30 May, the dates on which the complainant's testimony will be heard and examined by the hierarch's defense counsel.
It is recalled that on September 23, 2021, the former Metropolitan of Kiti Chrysostomos declared his non-admission to the charge of indecent assault on a woman, who at the time in question allegedly committed the crime, namely in November 1981, was a minor.
It is noted that on October 22, 2021 the Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca-Famagusta acquitted the former Metropolitan of Kiti for a case of rape of a woman, whose testimony was judged a unreliable and rejected.
