The reaction of DEOK was strong yesterday, stating, among other things, that the proposals for suspension of the implementation of the national minimum wage and the ATA are unacceptable and outside the framework of the social dialogue that is being conducted on both of these important issues. DEOK notes in turn that the last ten years have seen an unprecedented deconstruction and deregulation of labor acquis and in this context DEOK notes that the trade union movement will not allow employers to use the inflation crisis as a vehicle for suspension or cancellation of the national minimum wage and the ATA. “On the contrary, as the European Commission suggests, now is the time for a decent minimum wage to be implemented,” DEOK said, noting that now that inflation is bleeding incomes, “it is time to put the issue on the table.” of the full restoration of the ATA “.

The need for the continuation and implementation of the Automatic Indicator Adjustment (ATA) was stressed yesterday by the general secretary of the federation of associations of semi-governmental organizations (OHO) -SEK Andreas Elias after a meeting of the general council of the federation, referring to the inflationary pressures on the economy. Regarding the reactions to the issue of the national minimum wage, he said that it is not acceptable that the circumstances of the times should perpetuate indecent work. In his statements, Mr. Elias said that the general council of the UN-SEC, expressed its “strong concern” about the inflationary pressures that the economy is receiving and the accuracy that greatly affects the salaries, in a way that the purchasing value of households is dramatically reduced.
Particular sensitivity, he added, exists for the low paid and vulnerable groups of the population. He said that the logic and the guarding, through the economic crisis, of the continuation and implementation of the ATA were demonstrated. “It is a mechanism whose role is highlighted in such periods,” he said, adding that the ATA restores the purchasing power of wages in a coordinated manner, preserving, among other things, the purchasing power of households. The SEC, he said, has clarified that any positions to end the ATA and the social dialogue, “are out of the question”. “We are opposed to such positions by employers' organizations,” added Mr. Elias. Asked about the estimates regarding the inflationary pressures for 2022, Mr. Elias, referring to the estimates from the EU, said that it will be around 5% in the case of Cyprus. “You realize it has a big impact as the value of wages decreases,” he said.
