The Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture proposes by law a two-year extension of existing full-time or part-time coastal fishing licenses for small vessels, which expire on 31 December 2021, as the actors and Services involved with the regulation, said the Chairman of the Committee Giannakis Gabriel.
The Chairman of the Agriculture Committee, in a statement to KYPE, clarified that the duration of the licenses will be extended provided that the fees provided by law will be paid.
As he explained, the extension of the licenses was deemed necessary due to the restrictive measures applied in the Republic of Cyprus to deal with the coronavirus pandemic and because due to the measures to stop the pandemic, professional fishermen did not practice their profession for a long time and as therefore they do not meet the conditions for renewal of their license, and in particular the condition relating to their average fishery income.
He finally stated that the draft law next week will be before the Agriculture Committee for a position and then it will be taken to the Plenary Session of the Parliament for a vote.
