“He will inspire with the visions and values of the great struggle the next generations”
The construction of his monument has been completed of the Municipality of Paphos for the Greek Revolution of 1821, in one of the most central parts of the city, Dionysios Solomos Square on 25th Marchi Street with the monument flanked by the bust of the national poet.
The Mayor of PaphosPhaidonas Phaidonos in his statements referred to the importance of this initiative by the Municipality of Paphos to create a monument that will inspire with the visions and values of the great struggle the next generations and which at the same time will transmit to modern society and especially to the youth the appropriate messages.
The team to which the project was assigned, consisted of the architectural office of Lambrianos Koutsolambros Architects Ltd., the sculptor Arsentis Lisenkov, the visual artist Katerina Foukara, and the company G.M. Buildings Ltd. On behalf of the group, the contract was signed by the architect Yiannis Koutsolambros.
Mr. Koutsolambros stated that the goal of the group was the creation of a monument which it will chronicle the epic of the race but it will also be accessible with different uses since visitors and especially children will be able to explore its different aspects. The monument will also have an educational character since it will have QR codes, which will refer to texts and works of art about the revolution.
The decision was made three years ago during celebration of 200 years since the national rebirth. The Mayor of Paphos expressed his satisfaction, noting that the goal was to create a unique work that will chronicle the epic of the struggle.
Above the building, which is built in waves symbolizing the historical phases of Hellenism, were placed the sculptural parts of the work.
