The COVID-19 vaccination appointment arrangement is changing

Citizens' interest in vaccination has increased, which is gratifying, as citizens seem to recognize the importance of vaccination and the contribution of the vaccine to the gradual return to normalcy. The great response of the citizens exceeds the initial estimate that had emerged from a relevant research through a vaccination intention questionnaire – on the basis of which the initial planning was based -, which is evidenced by the availability of 10,846 appointments during the first three times of the Vaccination Portal.

Given that the quantity of vaccines currently received is low compared to the existing demand , and wanting to ensure the proper management of vaccines , while continuing the vaccination coverage of people over 80 years , the Ministry of Health proceeds with a differentiation of the procedure arranging vaccination appointments, introducing a more specialized age criterion.

Specifically, it is planned to be divided into subcategories of the age group of 80 years and over every two years that will be valid from the next date of appointment. In particular, in the first stage, the Vaccination Portal will be available for an appointment for people aged 90 and over who have not already been vaccinated and / or have an appointment. Depending on the interest of people over 90 for arranging appointments, appointments will be available for the group of 88-89 years, then for people aged 86-87, etc., until the coverage of the population that falls into the age over 80 years. It is understood that in parallel with the subcategory, for which the appointments will apply, it will be allowed to arrange appointments by older people. For example, when appointments are available for the 88-89 age group, they will be able to arrange appointments at the same time for those citizens over the age of 90 who have not already done so.

In addition to the rational management of vaccines, the aim is to ensure the transparency of the process, but to ensure a fair distribution of vaccines, while ensuring equal access for individuals falling within this phase of the National Vaccination Plan.

The specific dates and the available appointments will be announced in advance for the information of the citizens.
