Only for (part) of 2021 will be paid, as it seems, the president and the members of the previous Contractor Registration and Audit Council.
Yesterday, the members of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance released the funds related to the remuneration and hospitality and travel allowances of the president and the members of the previous Contractors' Boards only for this year, while their earnings for 2020 and 2019 will continue to be on the ice. The reason that the Parliament did not consent for so many years to the release of the funds was because the previous council did not proceed to the disciplinary cases against the contractors involved in the scandal with the Paphos Sewerage Council (SAPA). In fact, the members of the Commission urged the previous council to set a timetable for the promotion of disciplinary cases.

Following yesterday's decision of the Parliament, the members of the new council, who were appointed last August, will normally receive their salaries. Yesterday, the new chairwoman of the Council of Contractors, Xenia Cleopa, speaking before the Parliamentary Committee on Finance, said that the relevant funds were frozen from the state budget for three years, to put pressure on the council to examine the cases pending in SAPA on corruption. He assured that the new council has decided to complete the specific disciplinary cases, noting that after the release of the relevant fund it will advance the cases. According to Ms. Cleopa, the Council will also review the disciplinary code which will provide for stricter penalties.
