The Department of Customs in an announcement regarding the recent publications concerning products with the name “Halloumi”, but are not Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) products, which are traded in the single market, clarifies that no checks are carried out during intra-Union trade as this hinders the free movement of products which is the cornerstone of the single market.
It further points out that the Customs Department carries out checks in cases where it has reasonable suspicion or information in relation to the movement of products that do not comply with PDO specifications or are not PDO.< /p>
