The transport of dogs is the biggest issue it has to deal with today, due to the increased traffic in Paphos, the Department of Public Health and Environment Municipality of Paphos, according to its head Christos Christos.
In statements to the KYPE, Mr. Christou said that the campaigns of the Department of Health and Environment of the Municipality of Paphos have been intensified and that they are on the alert so that this summer season passes with minimal problems.
He pointed out that due to the increased traffic in Paphos during this period, all the hotels are full with local and foreign guests, so the problems faced by the Service are various, “with the main problem being the volume of dog waste that needs to be collected in a timely manner and their transport to the specific unloading points, so that an unsightly image is not created in various parts of the city”.
At the same time, he continued, with the many visitors comes another problem with street cleaning. As he mentioned, the small garbage cans that are scattered on the pedestrian streets and in the squares must be cleaned early in the morning by street cleaners so that, at the first light of day, this unsightly image does not exist.
Unfortunately, he noticed, due to the increased traffic, the increased volume of kennels, but also the reduced staff there are some ugly images recorded in the Service. We are trying, stressed Mr. Christou, to act in time so that this unsightly image is not created in the Paphos area.
He then referred to the area of swimming pools that need this supervision, stating that this year there have been some unwanted incidents. Our officials, he noted, “visit these reservoirs at regular intervals to verify that there are lifeguards there, they are alert, checking the quality of the water if it is at the levels provided by the legislation, and in general the management and the way of entering the public reservoirs if it is the one provided by the current legislation”.
Regarding the public toilets, he pointed out that their idea is to be constantly open and clean to serve the visitors.
As for the premises selling food, Mr. Christou noted that inspections must be carried out at regular intervals so that they operate under the proper specifications in order to avoid any untoward incident either with food poisoning or with substandard quality food provided.
He also said that the beaches are at the highest point of traffic and that Paphos Municipality Services officials visit them every day in order to verify that the sanitary facilities located there are kept clean. There must be decency so that visitors can enjoy the public beaches that the Municipality has in various areas of Paphos, he added.
He also announced that the fight against harmful insects especially mosquitoes and rodents is a daily problem that they have to deal with, adding that they are trying to deal with the situation.
Mr. Christou mentioned that in the Department of Public Health and Environment of the Municipality of Paphos, minimal permits have been given to the staff. We are alert to pass this summer season with minimal problems”, he concluded.
