<p>Director Paolo Taviani, who, together with his brother Vittorio, was one of the strongest names in Italian cinema, died in Rome at the age of 92.</p>
<p>In his long life, Paolo Taviani worked as a director, screenwriter, actor and writer. The Taviani brothers' best-known works (Paolo died in 2018) include 1972's San Michele Had a Rooster, Alozanfan, made two years later with Marcello Mastroianni, Laura Betti and Lea Massari, and the 1977 “Father Master,” which won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.</p>
<p>In 2012 the Taviani brothers were awarded the Golden Bear of the Berlin Film Festival for their play “Caesar Must Die” in which they played inmates of the prisons of Rome.</p>

As the newspaper La Repubblica points out, “the Taviani brothers worked in perfect harmony, so much so that it was impossible to distinguish the scenes that Paolo shot from those of Vittorio” while “they moved with absolute comfort in all types of cinema: inspired by current affairs, History (often with a metaphorical meaning) and literature.
