The earthquake that shook parts of Cyprus yesterday, shortly after midnight, was strong. The epicenter of the earthquake, according to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Institute, was 18 kilometers southwest of Paphos, in the sea. The focal depth was 10 kilometers.
The earthquake, measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale according to the Euro-Mediterranean Institute, was particularly intense.

Rumble and frightened citizens
The earthquake that lasted for several seconds and which was accompanied by a rumble was felt throughout Cyprus and particularly in the low-lying area of Paphos which is closer to the epicenter.
Citizens however, from the city of Paphos as well as from communities in the peri-urban area frightened people came out of their houses. However, according to the Police, there has been no information so far about serious damage or injuries.
