Experts are monitoring the seismic activity, with the earthquake that occurred shortly after midnight being felt throughout Cyprus.< /p>
In its announcement, the Department of Geological Survey of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment notes that on Wednesday September 04, 2024 at 00:30 local time it was recorded by its seismological network Partial earthquake of magnitude M = 4.9 on the Richter scale.
The earthquake had an epicenter in the maritime area of Cyprus, 18 kilometers south-west of Paphos and a focal depth of 13 kilometers. The earthquake was strongly felt in the provinces of Paphos and Limassol and felt in the rest of Cyprus. It was also felt/perceived throughout the eastern Mediterranean.
The phenomenon is monitored by the Seismological Center of the Geological Survey Department.
It is recalled that the earthquake was quite intense, which caused disturbance to citizens, who came out of their homes.
However, for the time being, both neither the Police nor the Fire Department has recorded any damage.
