Eight small buses to meet the needs of the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare and the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, have been ordered by the Department of Electromechanical Services of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works.

According to an announcement by the Ministry of Transport, the buses have ergonomic passenger seats and have the ability to transport passengers in seats and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in wheelchairs to facilitate their accessibility and transportation. The buses also have a lifting platform for the boarding and disembarking of disabled people in wheelchairs.

Specifically, these are three 8-passenger minibuses with the possibility of placing up to 4 wheelchairs, four 14-passenger minibuses with the possibility of placing up to four wheelchairs, a minibus with nine passenger seats and four wheelchairs.

As reported, the purchase was made by the Department of Electromechanical Services on assignment, following an open bidding process. The total purchase cost amounted to €728,357.35, which will be covered by the budget of the Ministry of Finance. The first three buses will be handed over to the beneficiaries on May 28, 2024 in a special ceremony, while the rest will be handed over gradually until the end of October 2024. transport needs of the various Ministries/Departments and Services of the public sector, contributing to the facilitation of movement and transport of persons with disabilities.
