On Tuesday, 25 April, the event entitled “Behind the Scenes: Chinese Cinema Encounters” took place at the premises of the University of UCLan Cyprus in Larnaca.
As part of the event, the newly established International Center of Media, Arts and Communication of the University of UCLan Cyprus was presented, a unique initiative developed by the British University of Cyprus in collaboration with the Wuhan University of Communication in China. The main operating objectives of the Center include the promotion of research and creativity, as well as the exchange of intercultural knowledge and experiences in the fields of audiovisual media, design, graphic arts and digital media and communication at a local, European and international level .
The Assistant Professor of UCLan Cyprus and vice-president of the newly established Center, Dr. Christos Karpasitis said among others: “Today's film event and the establishment of this Center are not only an important milestone for the Universities involved, but it is also an important step progress to promote international cooperation and intercultural exchanges. Our aim is to create a dynamic and collaborative environment that fosters creativity, critical thinking and cross-cultural understanding in the fields of audiovisual, media, arts and communication”.
The event was supported by the Cyprus Directors Union as well as the Larnaca Film Club. Also, through the event, UCLan Cyprus University participated in the “Cyprus International Film Days Festival”, with screenings of Chinese cinema that focused on environmental, ethical and economic issues. Both screenings were held in the presence of a delegation of award-winning and internationally recognized producers.
Notable at the event was the presence of the Mayor of Larnaca, Mr. Andreas Vyra, Mr. Zhang Ning, Head of the Political Unity of the Chinese Embassy in Cyprus as well as Mr. Simos Mytidis, president of the Municipal Council of Pyla.
