The Fetisov Journalism Awards announced the winners for 2023 in a glittering ceremony (pics-video)

    The work of the awardees not only reveals facts hidden from the general public, but also inspires other journalists to strive for the highest standards of integrity and professionalism

    The Fetisov Journalism Awards,which this year celebrated their fifth anniversary, recently announced the winners for 2023, at a glitzy ceremony, held at the CVK Park Bosphorus Hotel, in Istanbul strong>.

    This year's shortlist included 26 investigative stories, written by authors from more than 20 countries around the world. It is worth noting that this year the number of applications exceeded any previous record: more than 400 applications were submitted by writers from 96 countries.

    It is worth noting that the Awards were launched five years ago by billionaire philanthropist and businessman Gleb Fetisov< /strong>, whose family Foundation sponsors the Awards with an annual prize money of 520,000 Swiss francs.

    “It is wonderful to organize this celebration of excellence in journalism in Istanbul,” said Gleb Fetisov. “Istanbul is a city with a magical history, creativity and culture. It is also a dynamic news center and the perfect place to pay tribute to some of the world's best reporting.”

    THE WINNERS

    The winners in the four categories who each receive a first prize of 100,000 Swiss francs, are as follows:

    Outstanding Investigative Reporting: Hannah Dreier (USA) for “Alone and Exploited, Migrant Children Work Brutal Jobs Across the U.S.”

    Excellence in Environmental Journalism: Christian Salewski, Sebastian Kempkens, Greta Taubert (Germany) on “What's Really in It?”

    Contribution to Civil Rights:Anna-Catherine Brigida (USA) on “How Surveillance Tech Helped Protect Power — and the Drug Trade — in Honduras” 

    Outstanding Contribution to Peace: Hadeel Arja (Turkey) for “The Shocking Practice of ‘Forced Puberty’ in Northern Syria's Refugee Camps”
