The flag of the Republic of Cyprus flies next to the Greek flag and the flag of the European Union at the Town Hall of Rethymnon.
The decision was taken unanimously by the Municipal Council of Rethymnon.
The proposal was made by Giorgos Papadosifos, Authorized Councilor of Prasinos, Volunteering and management of stray animals of the municipality, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. The flag will fly for a week and according to Mr. Papadosifos, it is a symbolic tribute from Rethymno, to the struggle of the Greek Cypriots who experienced the Cypriot tragedy, which is one of the worst moments of Hellenism.
The proposal was accepted by the Board of Directors. as a symbolic act towards the homeland, Freedom, Democracy and in every form of totalitarianism and violation of human rights.
