    < strong>Meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs

    In an assessment of the bilateral relations between Cyprus and Kazakhstan, with the aim of further strengthening and deepening them, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Constantinos Kombos and his counterpart, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu, carried out during the official visit of Mr. Kombos to the country on Monday.

    According to an announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during his official visit to the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, which was made at the invitation of his counterpart, Mr. Kombos had a private meeting with Mr. Nurtleu, while extended talks followed between the delegations of the two Ministries. After the end of the consultations, the two Ministers made statements to the media.

    During the consultations, the establishment of an Intergovernmental Commission of Cyprus was proposed by Kazakhstan – Kazakhstan.

    On the part of Kazakhstan, the decision of the Republic of Cyprus to open an Embassy in Astana was also welcomed. Particular emphasis was also placed on cooperation in the economic sector and connectivity issues.

    On this topic, the two Ministers discussed the prospect of organizing a Business Forum based on specific priority sectors, and signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Air Services.< /p>

    The Minister of Foreign Affairs also informed his counterpart about the latest developments in the Cyprus issue.

    Also, the two Ministers exchanged views on EU-Kazakhstan relations, regional developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and Central Asia, as well as the developments in Ukraine and the Middle East.

    According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Kombos was then received by the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

    Mr. Kombos was also received by the President of the Senate Maulen Ashimbayev, while he also had a meeting with the Attorney General of the country Berik Asylov. As part of the meeting, the two officials signed an Agreement between Cyprus and Kazakhstan for the transfer of convicts.

    Finally, the Minister of Foreign Affairs visited the Astana International Financial Center (AIFC), where he was guided around the premises and was informed about the activity of the Center by the AIFC Board Governor Mr. Renat Bekturov.
