    Current developments in the Middle East were at the center of the meeting

    Meeting with the Secretary General of the Arab League < strong>Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Konstantinos Kombos had on Wednesday in Egypt, with whom he exchanged views focusing on the current developments in the Middle East.

    According to an official announcement, Mr. Kombos made a two-day working visit on June 4-5, 2024 to < strong>Egypt. During his stay in Cairo, the Minister met yesterday, June 4, with the Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.

    In particular, the two Ministers had a private meeting and then sat down in extended consultations with the participation of delegations from the two Ministries. At the focus of the consultations were bilateral relations between Cyprus and Egypt, the Cyprus issue, EU-Egypt relations, as well as regional developments in the Middle East.

    The two Ministers also signed < Memorandum of Understanding between the Governments of the Republic of Cyprus and the Arab Republic of Egypt for the employment of Egyptian citizens in Cyprus. The aim of the Memorandum is to facilitate and regulate the entry and residence of Egyptian workers in Cyprus for employment in various sectors, depending on the needs of the market and the Government's policy regarding them.

    After the consultations, the Minister of Foreign Affairs held a joint press conference with his Egyptian counterpart.

    As part of his visit to Cairo, the Minister of Foreign Affairs also held an informational meeting with representatives of the Egyptian media and granted an exclusive interview to an Egyptian television channel.
