ΥγιΕς και χωρΙ&sigmaf ποκοδουποε ;αιγειοοακο ></p> <p>Announcement from the office of the Environment Commissioner – Local authorities disagreed with the proposal to build and operate a 180MW solar park </p> <p>The views of all affected communities were heard at a meeting on Friday in relation to the proposed solar project in the area of ​​Lythrodontas, Mathiatis and Analionta/Katalionta, says a statement from the office of the Commissioner of the Environment.</p> <p>It is noted, among other things, that a site visit has shown that the pines that are planned to be cut do not have pitiocampus and the forest is healthy.</p> <p >The announcement states that the meeting was attended by the Commissioner of the Environment Antonia Theodosiou and her Office Officer, the President of the Machiras Complex and President of the Mathiatis Community Council Theodoros Tsatsos, the President of the Lythrodontas Community Council Olvia Christoforou, the member of the Lythrodontas Council Therapon Antoniou and a representative of Analionta/Katalionta Community Council.</p> <p>During the meeting, the opinions of the Machiras Complex, and especially of the three directly affected Community Authorities, were submitted and an update was given on the proposal for the construction and operation of a 180MW photovoltaic park and 40MW energy storage units, which is proposed to be erected on state-owned land, according to most of it, with a total area of ​​3,500 decares.</p> <p>As reported, the local authorities expressed their opposition to the creation of a photovoltaic park of such great power, for reasons related both to the size of the park and the huge area of ​​land it will occupy, but also to the thousands of trees that will need to be cut down, the agricultural land that the area will be deprived of, the change of the physiognomy of the natural landscape, the negative impact on an adjacent farm due to the high temperatures that will develop (due to the cutting of trees and/or the operation of the park), and, above all, as they mentioned, for the negative impact on the habitats of the area.</p> <p>Similar views were expressed by the Office of the Commissioner of the Environment, regarding the effects on the environment.</p> <p>An on-site visit to the area followed and it was established, according to the announcement, that the pines do not have pitiocampus, there are pines of various ages something which also proves that the pine forest is healthy, olive groves, fertile agricultural land cultivated as well as very remarkable landforms such as pillow lava hills. Birds of prey and cranes were also seen.</p> <p>For the proposed project, an Environmental Impact Assessment Study (EIA) and a Supplementary Study have been submitted to the Environmental Authority, while the project will remain open for consultation until 24/08 /2024, it is stated.</p> <p>Opinions from any interested party can be submitted electronically until this date, on the website of the Department of the Environment, which includes information about projects that have been submitted to the Environmental Authority based on the Assessment Impact on the Environment from certain projects Law N127(I)2018.</p> <p><noindex></p> <div class=Source: politis.com.cy
