The German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier was informed about the “Imagine” program supported by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs by the Group for Historical Dialogue and Research (OIDE) in Home of Cooperation
OIDE Press Release states that the visit “reaffirms Germany's commitment to building peace in Cyprus, with President Steinmeier expressing his support for the program 'Imagine' and to emphasize the importance of education for peace”.
Since its launch in 2017 with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, the 'Imagine' program has played a key role to bring the communities of Cyprus closer together, it states.
“Despite challenges, including the unilateral suspension of the program by the current Turkish Cypriot leadership in October 2022, the program continues to promote dialogue and cooperation between teachers and students from both communities, outside of teaching time”, is added.
The Co-Presidents, Council members and the Director of OIDE presented to President Steinmeier and the delegation overview of the impact of the program and its broad reach.
OIDE expresses optimism that through continued effort and cooperation, the “Imagine” program will continue to play a pivotal role in peace education, the elimination of discrimination and the promotion of dialogue and understanding.
