The biggest differences are, of course, that the second round is carried out by the Holy Synod and not the people and that the ballot paper given to the voters is blank and they manually fill in the bishop of their choice.</b></p> <p >About 60 prelates who meet the specified qualifications are eligible for nomination. In other words, it does not only concern the high-ranking clergy, but also not the whole clergy. However, none of them are running for office. Instead, if they are not interested in an election, they let the voters know. The criteria are as follows:</p> <ul> <li>To be unmarried clergy</li> <li>To be over 35 years old</li> <li>To hold a degree in theology</li> <p> < li>Have ten years of service</li> </ul> <p>Voters will be given a sealed ballot on which they will write the name of their preferred clergy who meets the criteria. It is expected that those who will come to the polls will know in advance who are the persons who are really interested in the Archbishopric Thokos, as they have been known for a long time and it is expected that the public will be informed even more in the next period. These are the Metropolitans of Limassol, Tamasos, Constantia, Morfos and Kyrenia and the Bishop of Karpasia. If even then it is not possible, a lottery is held. </p> <p>This process can change the ranking of the candidates, as the Holy Synod is a different electorate from the people and votes with different criteria, which are related to sympathies, personal and collective agendas, different approaches, even the age of the candidates, while informal “parties” also exist among the members of the Church hierarchy.</p> <p>Therefore, even if candidate X comes first in the elections, he may end up third if he does not receive the necessary support from the members of the Holy Synod.
