The importance of the cooperation between “Koios” and the Ministry of of transport, pointed out A. Vafeadis

The importance of the cooperation of the Center of Excellence for Research and Innovation "Koios", of the University of Cyprus, was pointed out today during his visit to the Center by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeadis. Mr. Vafeadis, who was accompanied by Ministry officials, said that the Ministry is looking forward to an excellent cooperation with the "Koios" Center of Excellence, with the ultimate goal of improving the quality of life of citizens.

As stated in a Ministry announcement, the meeting with the Minister at the Center was also attended by the Rector of the University of Cyprus, Tassos Christofidis, the Director and the Deputy Director of the Center of Excellence "Koios", Marios Polykarpou and Christos Panagiotou, as well as others members of the center's academic and research staff.

It is noted that during the meeting the role of research and innovation in the development of intelligent and sustainable transport systems was discussed, with the ultimate goal of improving the lives of citizens. Special mention was made of the long-term research collaboration between the Ministry of Transport and the “Koios” Center of Excellence, through which technological solutions are developed and implemented that contribute, among other things, to the digitization of transport networks and their more efficient management, the improvement of road safety and reducing traffic congestion. In addition, the attendees exchanged views on the electrification of transport and smart buildings.

The Rector of the University of Cyprus, Professor Tassos Christofidis, stated that through the research and innovation actions implemented, within the framework of the institutionalized Memorandum of Cooperation between of the Ministry of Transport and the University of Cyprus, innovative solutions are developed and implemented, which contribute to addressing the challenges in transport matters.

Finally, the Director of the Center of Excellence "Koios", Professor Marios Polykarpou, stated that the research activity between the two parties brings positive results and can be further upgraded, as it contributes to the Ministry's efforts for digital transformation and green development of transport systems. He also added that "Koios" has the scientific know-how and expertise to support the Ministry's effort to implement actions to achieve the green transition.
