    A contract of €4,550,000 plus VATfor the upgrade and maintenance of the Kalavasos bridge on the Nicosia-Limassol highway, has been signed by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, Department of Public Works, Office of the District Engineer of Limassol.

    In an announcement, the Department of Public Works states that the works have already started from October 2023 and will be completed in May 2025 and notes that for the period 09/09/2024-23 /12/2024, on the Kalavasos bridge on the Nicosia – Limassol highway despite the Zygio junction, bridge upgrading works will be carried out.

    He adds that during the works, they will be closed for traffic, the two lanes of the highway in the direction of Limassol for a length of approximately 1 km, while traffic will be diverted to the opposite traffic stream, which will operate in two-way traffic.

    In addition, according to the Department of Public Works, the entrance to the highway, heading towards Limassol, from the old Limassol road will be closed – Nicosia at the Zygio junction and the traffic from the old road to the highway will be channeled through the Aktis tou Kivernitis junction.

<p>“The goal is to open the highway to traffic during the Christmas period and before it is closed again for the traffic direction to Nicosia, for the period 07/01/2025-17/04/2025, with corresponding traffic arrangements”, he adds.</p>
<p>Taking into account the traffic difficulties in the area, the Department of Public Works asks the public to plan their traffic on the highway in time and to use alternative routes and routes for his movements, if and where possible.</p>
<p>Finally, the Department of Public Works apologizes for the unavoidable inconvenience that will be caused and calls on the public to show the necessary understanding and compliance with the temporary road markings, provisions of the Road Traffic Code and the instructions of the Police.</p>
