The list of voters who have the right to vote in the early “parliamentary elections” in two weeks, on January 23, was finalized and announced in the occupied territories today. These are 203,792 people. The polls will be open next Sunday from 8 in the morning until 6 in the afternoon.
According to an announcement by the “Supreme Electoral Council”, from 6.00 pm when the polls will close until 7.00 pm, for one hour, the publication of results is prohibited. It is recalled that in the occupied areas there are three voting options, stamp, stamp and option, mixed voting (SS: horizontal voting).
The votes of the parties will be counted first and then the votes of the candidates. This is the second time that the “parliamentary” elections have been held with an amendment to the “law on elections” and a long list, from which the voter selects the candidate he wants not only from his own “province”. This was the reason why in the previous “parliamentary” elections in January 2018, the count was delayed and the invalid votes reached 11.1%.
The “president” of the “council” Narin Ferdi Siefik clarified that those who are infected with coronavirus will not go to the polls. The health measures with which the voting will take place have not been decided yet, he added, they will wait for the decisions of the “supreme committee of infectious diseases” of the “ministry of health”.
A total of 763 polling stations will be set up in the 6 “provinces” in the occupied territories and 2289 people will need to work. According to Ms. Siefik, it was difficult for them to find the people who will staff the polling stations.
The ballot boxes are distributed as follows: Nicosia 231, Famagusta 196, Kyrenia 164, Morfou 55, Trikomo 87 and Lefka 30.
