The Mayor of Nicosia Konstantinos Giorkatzis welcomes the announcement, by the Department of Public Works of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, of an open tender for the project “Construction of a bicycle infrastructure connecting the universities of Nicosia with the city center – Phase C (from Salaminos Avenue – Linear Park of Kaimakliou – Agios Hilarionos/Collaboration Streets)”, No. Tender: KPS/02/2022/E(A).

Mr. Giorkatzis expresses his thanks to the long-term support of the President of the Republic and at the same time to the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Yannis Karousos. He emphasizes that the creation of the cycle route network will make commuting to and from the center of Nicosia a daily, comfortable, pleasant and above all, safe experience for everyone.

“The vision of the Municipality is for Nicosia to develop in a more sustainable city for the benefit of future generations. “To minimize the ecological footprint of the city by limiting pollution from cars and to facilitate access to other forms of transport, friendly to the environment, such as bicycles”, he noted.

Finally, he emphasized that with the completion of the entire project (Phase C and Phase D) and the connection with Kaimakli and Pallouriotissa, the vision of the bicycle connection will be completed, thus giving the opportunity to university students and to every resident of the greater urban area of ​​Nicosia, to travel quickly and safely by bicycle to the historic center of the capital.

The object of the competition is the construction of a bicycle infrastructure connecting the Universities of Nicosia with the City Center (Phase C). The infrastructure is approximately 4.6 km long, with the longest length of the cycle route being built on top of an existing road surface. The remaining length, which is not placed on the existing road surface, runs on the existing pedestrian/cycle path (Skepastos Ochetos Ombrion Pallouriotissa), in public spaces and on sidewalks. For the length of the existing bike path/pedestrian path above the Covered Gutter of Ombrion Pallouriotissa, repairs are planned to the floor, as well as repairs to the existing fences where this is deemed necessary. Additionally, as part of the project, roadway reconstruction and intervention will be carried out at the Kantara/Agios Hilarion roundabout.

March 24, 2023 has been set as the final date for submitting bids through the eProcurement system.

< p>The duration of the contract is 12 months.

The estimated cost of the project is €1,810,000.00 plus VAT.

It is noted that, the Project co-financed by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union, through the Operational Program: “THALEIA” and by national resources.
