A yellow warning has been issued by the Meteorological Service, as the high temperatures do not leave us.
The warning is in effect from 12:00 noon on Saturday until 5:00 pm. As reported, the maximum temperature is expected to reach around 41 degrees Celsius in the interior and around 32 degrees Celsius in the higher mountains.
According to the weather forecast, a seasonal low pressure and warm air mass is affecting the region. In the evening, the weather will be mostly clear, but at intervals on the coasts, increased low clouds will be observed. Winds will blow northwest to northeast and on the northern coast southeast, weak 3 Beaufort. The sea will be somewhat rough. The temperature will drop to 22 degrees inland, around 24 on the coast and 21 degrees in the higher mountains.
Tomorrow the weather will be mostly clear, but there will be increased clouds at intervals, mainly in the west and in the mountains. Winds will initially be variable, light 3 Beaufort to gradually become mainly southwest to northwest, light to moderate 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be somewhat rough. The temperature will rise to 41 degrees inland, 33 on the west coast, around 36 on the rest of the coast and 32 degrees in the higher mountains.
Tomorrow night the weather it will be mainly clear but at times there will be increased low clouds, mainly on the western coast. The winds will gradually become northwest to northeast and on the northern coast southeast, weak 3 Beaufort. The sea will be somewhat rough.
On Sunday, Monday and Tuesday the weather will be mostly sunny. The temperature will not change significantly on Sunday. On Monday and Tuesday, a gradual decrease is expected, but it will remain slightly above the climatic averages.
Red alert for forests
In the meantime, the Department of Forestry informs the public that tomorrow, Saturday, August 17, 2024, the risk of forest fires erupting and spreading will remain at the “Red Alert” level.
It is emphasized that lighting a fire without a permit is prohibited and that it constitutes an offense which, according to the Forestry Law of 2012, is punishable by imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of up to €50,000.00 or both penalties together and according to the Prevention Fires in the Countryside Law of 1988 up to 5 years or with a fine of up to €20,000 or both penalties together.
Lighting a fire, for preparing food, is only allowed in the grills of the excursion sites. The public is also strongly urged to be especially careful during their excursions, completely avoiding actions and activities likely to cause fire, such as the use of tools or agricultural machinery that produce heat, sparks or flame, such as emery, welding and welding.
