The problem of the low birth rate of the Greek population was touched upon by the Metropolitan of Paphos in his speech, on Saturday, at a gathering of women in support of his candidacy in the archbishopric elections.

He referred to the example of Thrace while describing the problem of low birth rates in Cyprus as “even worse”, since, as he said, “the foreigners who come are having a huge number of children and will slowly displace us”. The church should subsidize so that people have more children because our country and the Hellenism of this country will be based on these children, he said.

Referring to the blessed Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos, Paphos Georgios noted that the work which established him throughout Orthodoxy was seen mainly in the great synod of Crete in 2016, while he also spoke about the restoration of the Synod of Church of Cyprus after its destruction by the Latins.

He also referred to his work for young people, saying that Blessed Chrysostom II created the Youth Center to “protect young people from deviations”. “They will find refuge there so they don't go somewhere else,” he said, while mentioning that Nicosia also needs this and it is something that will be done.

The Metropolitan of Paphos also spoke at the regional meeting in support of his candidacy. , in the Mesogi Community Council building.
