The Ministry of Health is ready to provide any service in relation to the 4-year-old girl, who is intubated in the Intensive Care Unit of the Makarios Hospital, as she is suffering from streptococcus A, said on Tuesday the General Director of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Christina Giannaki.
In her statements, on the sidelines of her visit to food retail outlets, in order to ascertain the adequacy and effectiveness of the controls, carried out by the Ministry of Health, to ensure the safety and quality of food, in view of the festive season, Dr. Giannaki mentioned that the specialist infectious disease specialist – pediatric intensivist, who had been called by Israel, had arrived in Cyprus to monitor and evaluate the condition of the 4-year-old girl.
According to the General Director of the Ministry of Health until late on Monday night he was in contact with the experts, for the transfer of the girl by air ambulance (air ambulance) abroad.
However, she noted that the pediatric intensivist who attended the little girl told her it would be "too risky" for the child to be transported by air ambulance.
"I was waiting", he said specifically, "until late at night in my office and if it was necessary to transport the child we would do it. But, unfortunately, according to the pediatric intensivist, he cannot be transferred abroad.
Dr. Giannaki said that the Ministry of Health "deposits its soul and will deposit it, for any sick person who is going through difficult times. I am ready – if necessary – to be able to offer our services.
Answering a related question, Dr. Giannaki said that "the health condition of the little girl so far is very critical", expressing the hope that the little girl will be able to escape from criticality soon.
It is noted that the pediatric intensivist left for Israel on the 23 :00 on Monday.
