An appeal for the protection of the Cypriot tulip (Tulipa cypria) is addressed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, in view of its flowering.

Specifically, in his announcement, he invites the public who wishes to visit the areas where it grows, to see it or to photograph it, as it avoids the destruction of the plant or the degradation of its habitat in any way, so that its protection is maintained.< /p>

As stated in the announcement, the Cypriot tulip, a rare endemic plant, is currently blooming in various regions of the country. It is found in the occupied villages of Kormakiti-Myrtou-Panagra and on the Karpasia peninsula, near the village of Agios Simeon. In the free areas we find it on the Akama peninsula and between the villages of Mammari-Denia (green line).

The species is endemic and rare, so special attention is required for its conservation, so that its habitat is not degraded or destroyed or its small populations reduced by collection, eradication and trampling.

The endemic tulip is included in Appendices II and IV of the Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC) and the Law on the Protection and Management of Nature and Wildlife [No. 153(I)/2003]. According to the provisions of the Directive and the legislation for the conservation of the species, the declaration of Special Conservation Zones included in the European Natura 2000 Network is required. Also, the species is included in the Red Book of the Flora of Cyprus, where it is classified as Endangered.< /p>
