The Ministry of Finance will not allow the employees at RIK to remain unpaid, said the Minister of Finance Makis Keraynos.
In his statements after the Council of Ministers, Mr. Keravnos said that “Boards of Directors and General Directorates of semi-governmental organizations should, before deciding, make sure that their decisions are documented legally, financially and ethically”.
“On the issue of RIK, the Ministry of Finance has stated that we will not allow the employees to remain unpaid. The Ministry will immediately act to get their salaries”, he said.
It is recalled that the trade unions of RIK, EURIK OHO – SEC, SYTYRIK OHO – SEC and SIDIKEK PEO-RIK had sent a letter on March 23, in which they characterized as impermissible for a public law organization the possibility that the March salaries would not be paid to the institution's staff due to a delay in the “submission of the RIK budget to the Parliament”, which “clearly burdens the employer side”.
Furthermore, the issue of the payment of March salaries to RIK staff is further complicated as RIK's bank accounts have been frozen by court order in relation to the payment of damages that have been awarded in a lawsuit against the Foundation.
